Life Between the Vines...One Heartbeat at a Time

I am a wife, mom, aunt, cousin, friend, storyteller, memory keeper, designer, and woman of faith who believes God’s love is woven into the everyday - even in the quiet moments on a back porch.

With a BFA in Graphic Arts and Advertising, a minor in Public Relations, and a Master’s in Art History, creativity has always been at the core of my life. My early career put my minor to use in the fast-paced world of politics, where I served for many years as a senior advisor and speech writer - the voice behind the politician. Those experiences taught me the power of words and the importance of using them with both truth and care.

Inspired by my own backyard in Cypress, Texas, and dedicated to my son, Ryan, I created Lenny the Lizard’s Backyard Adventures to help children see God’s hand in both the small and the big moments of life.

​

Before my husband’s illness, we shared a deep love of travel, exploring far corners of the world together and gathering stories, memories, and perspectives that shaped how we see life. Those journeys remain treasured chapters of our marriage.

When I’m not writing or designing, you can often find me on nature walks, Bible journaling, tending to memory keeping projects, reading, photographing God’s creation, sipping coffee, and noticing the ordinary gifts that reflect His extraordinary love.

I’ve shared life with my husband for 36 years, a journey built on deep love, faith, and commitment. Together we raised our son, Ryan, who now works as a professional photographer for Disney and ESPN - something that fills me with both pride and joy. Yet with Ryan grown and thriving, I’ve discovered that the empty nest season can be both rewarding and unexpectedly hard.

Much of my time now is devoted to caring for my husband as he faces the challenges of Parkinson’s disease and stage 3 prostate cancer. The retirement years we once envisioned look very different, but I embrace this path with courage, grace, and steadfast faith in God’s steady hand.

​

Out of these seasons of both joy and trial was born my children’s series, Lenny the Lizard’s Adventures. Through Lenny and his friends, I weave gentle Christian lessons about faith, courage, kindness, and God’s love - reminders that He is always present, even in the smallest corners of our backyards. My hope is that these stories will spark joy, inspire young hearts, and encourage families to grow together in God’s Word.

Why I Write... The Mission Behind the Backyard
Through the playful adventures of a tiny lizard with a big heart, I pray to plant seeds of faith in children’s lives. Each Lenny the Lizard story is built around a simple truth of Scripture - teaching little hearts about love, trust, humility, and God’s never-ending care. My prayer is that these books will not only entertain but also open doors for parents and children to talk about God’s Word and walk in faith together.
